Carrier Air Conditioning Compressors

by Sierra Rein

The first Carrier air conditioning compressors were introduced in America in 1933. They were innovative to the industrial society at that time due to the fact that they came in an equipment "package" which could be moved from one building to another, if necessary. These compressors were instrumental in creating the idea that a room could have its very own portable air conditioner.

Today, there are many different kinds of Carrier air conditioning compressors. Distributed by the Carlyle Compressor Company, Carrier compressors can be found professional and residential refrigerators and freezers around the world. They have been touted as the most reliable and longest-lasting refrigerator and HVAC compressors known in the market.

The Main Types of Carrier Air Conditioning Compressors

Carrier compressors come in five different model categories: semi-hermetic reciprocating, semi-hermetic two-stage, SC/SR scroll, open-drive reciprocating, and open-drive and semi-hermetic twin screw. The semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors are single stage and are designed to retrofit with many popular Carrier and Carlyle products. The semi-hermetic two-stage compressors are great for low-temperature refrigerators and contain a six cylinder compound cooling design that creates a high efficiency rating.

SC/SR scroll Carrier air conditioning compressors are great in smaller conditioners and heat pumps that use less power and that should run quieter. Open-drive reciprocating compressors are for industrial applications and uses automatic unloaded starters to do away with the need of costly torque motors. Finally, an intelligent and unrestricted flow pattern design within the casing provides higher operating efficiency and more reliability under extreme temperature ranges.
