Blundstone shoes have been manufactured and sold since 1870. The company has won a variety of honors and awards including the Design Award from the Industrial Design Council of Australia and the Australian Export Award. The Blundstone tannery still rests on the original site in Hobart, Tasmania that was built by family members in 1830. Blundstone has expanded over the years and now employs nearly 400 people in the shoe-making process.

Qualities of Blundstone Shoes

Blundstone shoes are produced with a strong technological base. The company uses direct sole molding technologies such as dual density rubber, dual density polyurethane (PU), PU/rubber, thermo urethane polyurethane (TPU)/PU, PVC, and nitrile rubber. These materials are used to create the patented Shock Protection System (SPS) that Blundstone is known for.

The Shock Protection System in Blundstone shoe designs has revolutionized the level of comfort in footwear. The SPS technology helps to reduce lower back pain, fatigue, and orthopedic problems with the legs and feet. This system has also shown to reduce shock transmission to legs by 33 percent in a variety of tests. Blundstone's Shock Protection System has recently been enhanced with Poron, the world's most advanced shock absorbing material.

Blundstone Footwear recognizes its responsibility to the environment and the community since Tasmania is known for its beautiful natural environment. Blundstone shoes feature manufacturing materials and packaging that are recycled whenever possible. The company also minimizes its use of fossil fuels, raw materials, and harsh chemicals.
