Idaho Health Insurance
Idaho State Health PlansThe choice you make among Idaho state health plans is an important one. The more time you spend now, whether online or with a broker or a customer service representative, making an informed decision, the better off you'll be in the long run. Having insurance is a must in a period when health care costs seem to do nothing but rise. To make the most of it, however, you want and need a plan tailored to your specific needs. Thinking about Idaho State Health Plans and OptionsThere are about 10 or 12 insurance companies licensed to operate in Idaho. Two of these, Blue Cross and Regence Blue Shield, are national insurers. The first thing to establish as you look across all of these companies are your priorities. On the one hand are flexibility in choosing your doctors and health care practitioners and being able to see a specialist when you need or want to. On the other are lower monthly premium costs and low-cost preventive care. Being comfortable with and trusting a doctor is a critical factor in choosing among Idaho state health plans. And preventive care--annual medical check-ups, regular immunizations, a healthy lifestyle, good eating habits, and plenty of exercise--is key to good health. It's not enough, however. Accidents and sudden illnesses happen when you least expect them. Maybe your child breaks a wrist while camping, or you break your collarbone while playing soccer. Your doctor discovers a cyst during a routine examination, or genetics comes into play and you need a hip replacement. Traditional health care plans, also known as indemnity or fee-for-service plans, focus on choice and specialized care. Managed care plans--the HMOs and PPOs we've grown accustomed to--focus on lower costs and preventive care. Much of the deciding among Idaho state health plans will be a matter of weighing your family's needs and being realistic about potential long-term costs. ![]() Get all Health Insurance articles via
