Texas Weekend GetawaysTexas weekend getaways are probably better suited to the small towns of Texas rather than the big three: Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. The Lone Star state has three cities in the nation's top ten, more than any other state; every once in a while, though, you need to get away from the hum of the city and listen to the chirp of the crickets. There are plenty of smaller, and friendlier, places to do just that. Get Away to a Bed and BreakfastIf you've never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast, make sure you visit one while you have the chance. It's more than just rooms and meals like at a hotel; it's like temporarily moving in with someone. Often, the accommodations are unique--you'll be staying in guest cottages, small inns, or even remodeled ranch hand's bunkhouses. The beauty of a B & B is that it's comfortable. While most traditional motels are nothing more than beds and TVs in a sterile room, you can lounge around inside a B & B all day long--it's a house, after all. Since many generally have everything you'll need, you can share a private weekend with a loved one without any hassles. Talk about getting away from it all--many smaller inns provide the seclusion that big-city hotels can't. You can turn off your cell phone and watch the stars from a rustic Texan B & B where the pace slows down enough for you to really enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors. After all, that's what a weekend getaway should be all about. ![]() Get all Texas Travel articles via
