Lots of ads and broken links are always a bad sign, and if it seems like the site is trying too hard to get your clicks, then go elsewhere. When in doubt, you can always do an internet search on the website itself, to see if other people have had success with it.

Reading reviews and following other computer users' suggestions is always the best way to find the best programs. I will never download and open a program without finding at least two independent reviewers that recommend it. This is a fail-safe way to ensure that what you're getting is what it claims to be.
