Dance Wear
Ballroom Dance ShoesBallroom dance shoes are appropriate for dance styles such as the tango, salsa, waltz, rumba, swing, foxtrot, cha-cha, and samba. Ballroom style shoes are usually seen in professional ballroom dance competitions, but can also be worn for classes and for a night of dancing at a town dance club. Some styles may be worn for general dance performances and for musical theater productions as well. Types of Ballroom Dance ShoesBallroom dance shoes are available for both men and women. However, there is a larger and more elaborate selection of ballroom shoes for women. Women's ballroom shoes usually have a high heel and specific styles of straps across the top of the shoes. Some dance styles require that dancers wear a certain style of shoes. For instance, T-strap shoes are most commonly worn for Latin styles of ballroom dance. Capezio is the leading manufacturer of ballroom dance shoes. Capezio offers a variety of designs, materials, and colors of shoes that are appropriate for different dance styles and to match different colors of dance costumes. Most Capezio shoes have straps to keep the shoes from slipping off while dancing. However, some styles, such as the Vienna and Suzanna, have no straps because their elasticized vamps and top lines provide a secure fit. Capezio styles mainly differ according to the design of straps used. For instance, the Sofia has thin straps with a rhinestone buckle, while the Vivian has thick x-straps on a closed toe shoe. The Phantom is a Broadway-inspired Capezio design. It is more covering than most of the other styles and is appropriate for swing or character dancing. ![]() Get all Dancewear articles via
