Dance skirts are most commonly worn for ballet classes and for dance performances. There are many different styles of skirts to choose from and some are more appropriate for certain styles of dance than others. Different styles and colors of skirts for dance can be found in dance wear stores, costume catalogs, and on the Internet. Dance wear websites often provide the best deals on skirts for dance.

Styles of Dance Skirts

There are many different styles of dance skirts to choose from, depending on the style of dancing you are performing. Tutus are a well-known style of skirt for ballerinas. Tutus are usually stiff, are worn on the hips, and stick out to the sides. They can be made from chiffon, tulle, nylon netting, or organdy. Tutus were traditionally only worn by professional ballerinas, but are now worn by all age groups, in class and for performance.

Juliet skirts are a longer version of the tutu and are also worn only by ballerinas. Juliet skirts are usually made from the same materials as tutus, but they hang downwards and catch the air with jumps and kicks. Most Juliet skirts are about knee length and some have an elasticized waistband. Children's juliet skirts are usually 20 inches in length and adult styles are usually 24 inches in length.

Wrap style, tie front, pull-on, and long dance skirts can be worn for a variety of dance styles. Most of the time, these styles are worn for ballet classes, lyrical jazz performances, and sometimes for liturgical dancing. These styles of skirts are also available in a variety of colors and patterns, unlike tutus and Juliet skirts. You can even find metallic, tie dye, iridescent, and embroidered styles of skirts for dance.
