African Coffee Beans

by Linda Alexander

African coffee beans produce a coffee that has been described as fruity, sweet, syrupy, and wild. Many coffee aficionados who like to experiment with different types of coffee, look for African coffee beans. This coffee has also been compared with wine, having a wine-like flavor with an aftertaste that is reminiscent of chardonnay.

Coffee was born in Ethiopia. Other African countries that produce coffee beans are Kenya, Yemen and Tanzania. African coffees are medium-bodied with a medium level of acidity. While coffee is grown in about 80 countries, it is easily killed by frost. It must be grown between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Other major growing regions are Latin America and Indonesia.

African Coffee Beans and Regional Characteristics

Some coffees exhibit regional characteristics. Within each regional category, there are variations. Selection, roasting and handling of African coffee beans all have an effect on the final flavor of coffee. Therefore, a distinct combination of beans will produce a different flavor.

There are so many choices and so much to enjoy. Much like chocolate, wine, or cigars, there are coffee enthusiasts who become experts at tasting the various notes and bodies of different coffees. Try coffee from another region than what you're used to, and you will get the full experience of coffee.
