Try opening any reputable men's magazine, medical journal, or "E-zine" and not finding at least one major article on maintaining heart health. The heart is literally and symbolically at the center of our well-being. It is the pump that ensures all our organs are receiving enough oxygenated blood to function at their peak. It's also one of the ripest targets when it comes to ailments.

One of the keys to optimum heart health is undoubtedly cardiovascular exercise. Putting the heart through a rigorous workout three times a week helps ensure that it works hard enough to stay conditioned for its most demanding tasks, from shoveling a snowy driveway to scaling a mountain. Most doctors agree that exercise alone, however, is insufficient for keeping the heart at its healthiest.

Heart health supplements ensure that the organ receives enough essential fatty acids, namely the famous "omega-3s," to protect itself. This is why so many physicians recommend that their patients consume foods high in unsaturated fats such as salmon, nuts, and olive oil. A steady diet of heart healthy pills can give you an added measure of defense simply by taking them once a day. As with all diet and exercise choices, however, be sure to speak with your doctor before instituting any major changes. Chances are, he or she will agree that enhancing blood circulation and improving your blood vessel dilation can only benefit you, but it's still worth it to get a professional opinion.
