Internet Background Checks

Internet background checks have become staples of the corporate world, where they are looked to for assistance in interviewing and hiring. At the same time, there are plenty of other valid reasons one might choose to conduct internet background checks. Some stem from concern over your own personal safety. Others come from a desire to protect your loved ones, especially young children.

It's not uncommon for single people, women in particular, to conduct background checks on men they're dating. This may involve digging up details on someone you've yet to meet (say, in the case of a blind date), or it may pertain to someone you've been dating for several weeks or months. Something in your suitor's "story" may not add up, or you may have caught him in an outright lie about a smaller issue and hence suspect him of lying about bigger ones--such as who he is and what he does.

Other Reasons for Internet Background Checks

Working parents who don't have the time to watch their children 24/7 may choose to hire a nanny or some other caregiver. In recent years, shopping center video cameras and what have come to be known as "Nanny Cams" have revealed shocking footage that's enough to make any parent nervous about his or her children's treatment. For this reason, many parents go way beyond the mere checking of references when it comes to hiring maids, au pairs, and nannies and conduct their own internet background checks.

Perhaps your son or daughter is intent on joining a local club or social group. This may be a secular group such as a boys or girls club, a religious group, or perhaps a youth athletic team or league. It makes sense then to take the added precaution of vetting his or her leaders' credentials before the first meeting to make sure that no adults involved have histories of violence, psychological problems, or sexual predation.
