Oral Hygiene
Cat ShampooCat shampoo should preserve the natural luster of your cat's fur while removing surface dirt and dander. Water and cats do not usually mix too well, so the shampoo should work quickly, safely, and have long-lasting effectiveness. In fact, the hardest part of using a cat shampoo might well be creating a bathing space that will keep the cat in and give you protection from a protesting kitty! Today's pet products offer an array of inexpensive and costly items that you can look over to make your choice, and pet shampoo likewise comes in many forms. Cats are sensitive to many substances that do not particularly bother dogs; they also have dietary needs that are different from those of dogs. It is very important, therefore, that you get a non-toxic cleanser that is a cat shampoo, not a dog shampoo. Botanical Cat ShampooShampoos should be mild, safe, and beneficial to the animal's fur. This means botanicals rather than chemicals and detergents, both of which are harmful. There are many natural ingredients that can go into an enhancing shampoo that will clean your cat. Acidic substances--apple cider vinegar and lemon oil--are deep cleansers that remove dander and restore the proper pH. For outdoor cats who roam at night and get into scrapes with other cats, tea tree oil is antibacterial, antiseptic, and leaves your animal's fur smelling nice and looking glossy. Other ingredients might be humectants, which help the fur and skin retain moisture, and conditioners, which leave protective sheaths on the hair. A good shampoo makes your cat look good, but, more important, it contributes to the health of your pet. Look for products from a company that focuses on overall pet health, not shampoos. ![]() Get all Hygiene articles via
