Flowmaster MufflersFlowmaster mufflers are a truly unique--and truly American--automotive product. If you've ever heard a muscle car or truck cruising down the road with an impressive low rumble, chances are you're hearing a Flowmaster muffler at work. The neat thing about Flowmaster mufflers is that they're known as much for their performance as for their sound. How Do Flowmaster Mufflers Work?When exhaust enters your Flowmaster muffler, the first stop is something called a "resonant tuning chamber." Flowmaster's resonant tuning chambers are designed to trap sound and filter out certain frequencies. It is during this step that the trademark Flowmaster sound comes to life--annoying high frequencies are cancelled out while the soothing low tones are allowed to pass through. The next step for your exhaust is the "power chamber," a section of the muffler that creates negative pressure in order to increase torque and horsepower. The power chamber also features a series of plates that continue to tune and cancel the sound of the exhaust. These plates are tuned to an extremely fine degree--Flowmaster boasts that their +/- .004 tolerance is the tightest specification in the industry. The final stop for the exhaust passing through a Flowmaster muffler is the "low pressure balance chamber." This chamber actually serves a crucial function for engine performance. It creates a pressure balance that prevents atmospheric pressure on the outside of the muffler from interfering with the pressure of the exhaust.
