Hypercom Printers

by Gregg Ruais

Printing at 13 or even 16 lines per second, Hypercom credit card terminal printers are among the fastest on the market. Hypercom attributes this exceptional speed to multi-directional print heads. In other words, their print heads release ink as they move from left to right and right to left, whereas some other companies' printers only operate as they move one way or the other.

Hypercom's line of printers are especially quiet as they operate, making them appropriate for busy stores that have multiple registers operating at once. When several noisy printers are in use simultaneously, the result is a cacophonous retail store. Both employees and customers get perturbed hearing that sort of screeching sound over and over again.

Hypercom Printer Specifications

Hypercom printers use three-inch paper, wide enough to make all print clear and legible. In addition, people tend to lose smaller receipts more often than large ones. The design of these printers allows for fast and simple paper loading. In addition, Hypercom printers take up very little space on counters, reducing clutter and improving overall spacial organization.

These devices vary in cost, depending on where people buy them. In general, $300 is considered a competitive price. The life expectancy of a Hypercom is said to be 2,000,000 lines, and the print head life is estimated at 50,000,000 characters. The terminals to which these printers are attached supply all the power needed to print. This eliminates the need for extra power sources.
