College Scholarships and Grants
Photography ScholarshipsIf you're thinking about attending one of the many art colleges and educational institutes throughout the United States, you can find several sources for financial aid. If you're interested in pursuing a career in the arts, you need to find an educational resource that provides you with hands-on training and professional feedback. If you're interested in pursuing a career in photography, you need to gather your best photos and images into a portfolio. This portfolio is your calling card, and should be compiled with care. If you're a high school student, you need to consult with an advisor to create a compelling sample of your work for presenting to colleges and art institutions. Once you compile a portfolio, it's time to find scholarship information for your area and beyond. Scholarship Spotlight: Young Americans Photography CompetitionOne of the best ways to earn money for college and other education is to compete in contests and competitions. The Young Americans Photography Contest is sponsored by Farmers Insurance and provides awards for amateur photography students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The prizes range from $100 for runner-up photographs to $1,000 for the grand prize winning photo. This contest offers students of all ages the chance to explore their skills as amateur photographers. According to the rules, you must include the negative for every photo submitted. In addition, you can't submit Polaroid photos or digital photos for consideration. This is just one of the many amateur photography contests that provide students with financial aid for college and art institute training. Students who study photography go on to become photojournalists, professional photographers, and fashion designers just to name a few career opportunities. The ideal educational environment provides students with hands-on experience with a number of different media forms. ![]() Get all Scholarships articles via
