Military Scholarships

If you're looking for a way to pay for college, you can do what millions of Americans have done and sign up for military service. There are a number of different scholarship programs though the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, in addition to other financial aid packages available to men and women.

Some students opt to participate in ROTC programs, which provide money for college in exchange for service in the Reserve Officer Training Corps. Most college campuses offer ROTC programs. If you sign up for one of these programs, you need to take a military science course in addition to your regular course of study. In addition, you will be required to wear your officer's uniform once a week during training activities.

The Most Common Military Assistance Programs

The United States military offers four primary sources of financial assistance for students. The first type of assistance is tuition assistance. Students receive funds for college in exchange for full-time military service. The second form of assistance is the Montgomery GI Bill. Students receive just over $32,000 for education costs in exchange for a three-year commitment to full-time duty in one of the branches of the military.

You can also participate in several different college fund programs through the military. These programs provide additional funds for higher education. The final form of aid comes from loan repayment programs. If you've graduated from college and you're up to your neck in loans, this program provides you with significant reductions in loan repayment rates in exchange for military service.
