Meditation CDs

by Elizabeth Rose

For those seeking peace of mind, meditation CDs are a wonderful invention. Many people live in noisy crowded environments these days. While silence is golden, it's also hard to find. In cities, creating a sense of peace and quiet or private space is paramount. Whether at the office or at home, you'll want to check out meditation CDs to help you create the calm everyone needs from time to time.

Lots of Meditation CDs

There are many varieties of CDs suitable for meditation. Part of this is because there are many types of meditative practices and many different kinds of people pursuing them. Some people like music, where others prefer a kind of white noise that masks sound. Other technologies have been developed, too which can deepen meditative states by effecting brainwaves.

Somewhere in the 1960s or early 1970s people began discovering the calming properties of certain kinds of Eastern music. Indian raga, Japanese flute and Balinese gamelan all introduced people in the West to scales and tones that were soothing to the nerves. Sometime in the 1980s musicians began marrying these sounds with Western and electronic instruments and New Age music and Soft Jazz were born.

Nature sounds also were studied and proven to be soothing. These were often combined with music and when sound wave technologies were invented these were added too. These sound wave technologies give music CDs a little extra something when it comes to inducing desired mental states. They incorporate rhythmic sounds that cause the brain to go into alpha or theta states easily, which shortcuts some of the time you have to spend in meditation to achieve the same results.
