Free marriage agencies often give people the idea that it is possible to meet a woman from another country, marry her, and bring her to the United States for no cost. This is not true. These agencies simply do not charge a client an application or membership fee. They do, however, charge for almost every service they provide.

The majority of marriage agencies, free or otherwise, are very easy to use. Most agencies operate over the Internet at this point, but it is still possible to find some that have offices that clients can actually visit. To get started, a person fills out a form, giving basic information about himself, and he views information on the women he can contact.

Even with a free marriage agency, a person will have to spend money as soon as he wants to get in touch with someone. First contact is usually made through a letter. The letter will have to be translated and sent to the woman. Some agencies provide this service (for first letters to two women) for under $40, but others charge close to $100. Along with the letter, a man can send gifts to his prospective bride. Flowers, candy, or food baskets usually cost somewhere between $60 and $90. When a client is ready to contact the woman by phone, he will generally pay about $50 to do so.

If a client does not want to contact anyone, a free marriage agency will remain free. These services provide a person with a good way to get acquainted with how the process works. If he finds it is not something for him, he won't have wasted any money.
