Wrestlemania tickets have been a dream gift for youngsters (and some parents) starting as early as 1985, the date of Wrestlemania I at Madison Square Garden in New York. Back then, the event was sponsored by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), a league that has since given birth to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). In spite of the brand change, the league is still home to the top professional wrestling talent in the world some 20 years later.

The first Wrestlemania brought together what can only be considered a Hall of Fame of wrestling personalities. The lineup for that first extravaganza included the likes of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Big John Studd, and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. It was at that same event that the notorious tag-team combination of The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff stole the championship belt from Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo.

These days, Wrestlemania is no longer a "fringe" sporting event lurking in the shadows of the the Super Bowl or World Series--at least, not in terms of revenue. The league brings in as much as 400 million dollars in revenues per year, though that figure may be higher by some executives' estimations. Wrestling may not have the mainstream appeal of professional baseball or football, but it's nevertheless a marketing juggernaut that rakes in huge ad dollars and admission fees as well as closed-circuit television subscription sales.

For fans, there is but one Wrestlemania for which tickets are available, though there are smaller events that support it. Getting tickets through the WWE can be a challenge to say the least. Those intent on catching every body slam and pile-driver up close are almost forced to go through a ticket broker, even when the show comes to bigger venues that seat 30,000 or 40,000 spectators.
