Australian Visas
Australian JobsAustralia boasts of having one of the strongest economies in the world, and the facts and statistics back this up. Its gross domestic product has held at a high percentage since 1990, and it has a higher-than-average rate of growth compared to many other countries. The jobless rate just fell to the lowest level in 27 years. A total of 1.4 million new jobs have been created since March, 1996. Always in need of certain kinds of skilled migrants, Australia has established policies designed to attract the best professionals. Any applicant for any Australian visa must satisfy the requirements of good health and good character. Beyond that, applicants for skilled visas must be generally qualified in their field and have experience in one of the jobs listed on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL). There are a variety of professions, trades and other occupations on this list, which is reviewed annually to ensure that jobs are listed in fields in which shortages have appeared. Professions on the SOLGovernment statistics show that within six months of migrating, 89 percent of Skilled Independent (non-sponsored) visa holders have found jobs, and within 18 months, 92 percent have obtained employment. If you are between the ages of 18 and 45, have a good command of the English language, and have recent work experience, you might be eligible for one of these valued visas. General business categories of occupations on the SOL include accounting, financial services, consulting/business analysis, and sales/marketing. Other fields include media/printing, surveying/cartographic, architecture/building/construction, and engineering/oil/mining. There is always a need for teachers and education professionals, and for scientists in agriculture, biology, chemistry, and physics. Services that are particularly needed by the general population include the law and legal services, social workers, and healthcare workers. ![]() Get all Australia Travel articles via
