Immigration Websites

by Patricia Tunstall

Many immigration websites can provide immigration, visa, and legal information that is current and reliable. The Australian government itself has an umbrella site which will lead you to myriad related sites at http://www.australia.gov.au. You can find what you want by using a keyword, typing in the kind of services you are interested in, or by listing the state or territory that is pertinent.

Government Websites

You can apply for non-Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) visas at Australian embassies and other offices around the world. In the United States, the embassy's website is at http://www.austemb.org. In Canada, the High Commission is at http://www.ahc-ottawa.org. For customs information of all types, go to http://www.customs.gov.au.

Immigration Websites

The official, government website for all immigration matters is http://www.immi.gov.au. This site will provide information and links to many relevant sites about Australia in general, and visas in particular. All registered migration agents are under the jurisdiction of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA), which has its own site at http://www.themara.com.au. For any questions, complaints, or information about migration agents, this website is the place to go.

Legal Websites

For general questions about Australian law, take a look at http://www.nia.gov.au/oz/law.html. AussieLegal has hundreds of free information outlines for subjects you want to explore at http://www.aussielegal.com.au. You can find out about free legal resources at http://www.freelaw.com.au.
