Marriage Cups

by Stacy Chbosky

Beautiful marriage cups are now memorable reminders of the marriage day. These cups are often silver, and are almost always engraved with the couple's names and the wedding date. The cup is then set out as a lovely decoration in the home, a stately reminder of their special day. It is a fabulous gift for the bride's parents to give the happy couple, and a sure sign that they approve the marriage.

The History of Marriage Cups

Marriage cups, or wedding cups, were once a more pivotal part of the actual marriage ceremony. During the early part of the 1800s, the future bride was gifted the wedding cup before her wedding day. The cup was traditionally sterling silver. It was usually engraved, as it still is today.

However, unlike today, the couple would actually use the cup during the ceremony. They would each drink from the cup. Then, every year on the anniversary of their wedding day, they would drink again from the sterling silver cup.

If you wish to buy a marriage cup for a bride-to-be in your life, look online. You'll find excellent variety. Just make sure that the company you order the cup from is also skilled in engraving. You don't want to have to order the cup from one place, then take it somewhere else to be engraved. It's much more convenient and smarter to do it all at once.
