Corporate Data

by Jacey Harmon

Corporations can generate revenues in the billions every three months. The large revenues also create massive profits for the business and investors. To create the revenue stream corporations provide products and services in exchange for cash. This transaction creates revenue as well as a mountain of data the company can use to expand and enhance its operation.

Each transaction will create at least four main data components. In order to create a sale something must have been sold. Once an item sells the corporation records the information and hence a bit of data is born. The price of the item is recorded as well as the location of the sale. A company will likely keep track of the employee that was responsible for the transaction in the first place.

Of course, there can be a lot more information provided through a single transaction. The number of items sold and the customer that bought them may be recorded. The date of the sale as well as the company cost for the sold item can also be kept in records. When you consider that we have just named at least twelve items that can be recorded on a single transaction, and large corporations can perform thousands of transactions a month, the amount of corporate data is insanely huge.

Using Corporate Data

The above paragraphs highlight some of the data that can be recorded through a single transaction. That is just one side of a corporation that data can be accumulated and analyzed. Supply side transactions, financial operations, and management and employee efficiency all can be recorded and analyzed. When properly analyzed, corporate data can be used to streamline expenses and provide better product placement.

To analyze data, corporations need to utilize data warehouses and cubes. Data warehouses gather, store, analyze and deliver data to end users. Cubes provide an opportunity for a user to study a multitude of factors in a single report. One can combine any of the above characteristics to create visual reports and identify sales trends. Business intelligence and data analysis firms specialize in providing data analysis solutions to corporations.
