Personal Protection Devices
Alarm KeychainsAlarm key chains offer several obvious advantages over their bigger, bulkier counterparts in the security products industry. One of these is their portability, enabled by their lightweight design and compact size. A key chain alarm fits in the palm of your hand and yet still manages to pack a punch--often to the tune of 130 decibels. A second selling point of key chain alarms is their versatility. Sure, having this safety device affixed to your key ring is convenient, but it's also helpful in noisy places such as factories and sports venues. The blaring signals these pocket-sized contraptions emit is more than enough to get the attention of workers in a machine shop, football players practicing outdoors, or even the fans in the stands. Safety FirstWhile everyone from traffic cops to referees may find alarm key chains useful, their primary purpose is still to protect the innocent. Having an alarm at your fingertips when walking through, say, a parking structure, confers an added sense of security, especially late at night. Best of all, unlike whistles, these alarms can be sounded with the mere push of a button and don't require any blowing. If you're being attacked, the last thing you want to worry about is raising your alarm to your lips and managing several forceful breaths. Key chain alarms are excellent deterrents against human threats but are by no means limited to homo sapiens. A shrill whistle is often enough to stop an angry dog dead in its tracks, whether it's out at a dog park or just on the streets of your own neighborhood. As a second option, you may choose to carry an ultrasonic whistle, which is undetectable to human ears, on your key chain in order to keep canines at bay. ![]() Get all Home Security articles via
