Body Guard Pepper Spray

by Jeremy Horelick

You don't have to be an actual body guard to purchase body guard pepper spray. Rather, the designation is meant to imply potency, and little else. Nevertheless, it's an effective marketing strategy for the makers of pepper spray, for what consumer wouldn't want the same measure of defense capabilities that professional body guards use to keep their subjects safe?

That said, body guards do rely on pepper spray as a deterrent, especially when the numbers aren't in their favor. A trained martial artist may be able to stave off two or three attackers, but most will succumb to even modest-sized crowds. In our celebrity culture, it is these very crowds or mobs that usually pose the greatest threat, as lone attackers--at least the untrained variety--are generally thwarted with ease.

When the Need Arises

Those in the personal security industry usually opt to take the least damaging means of defense necessary to eliminate a threat. Thus, a heckler may be chased off by little more than a body guard's presence, which is beneficial all around. The celebrity (or other subject) is left alone, the heckler is spared physical violence, the body guard dodges potential lawsuits, and the pepper spray is preserved--a win-win-win-win scenario.

In other instances, physical presence alone simply won't cut it. Bar brawls, street fights, gang encounters, and other unsavory situations call for more drastic measures. Here, pepper spray can be the right choice for its ability to defuse a rapidly escalating encounter before it leads to serious injury or death.
