The easiest way to extend the life of your lawn mower deck is to wash it out after each mowing. Grass clippings can accumulate in the machinery over time, and cause unnecessary wear. Just spray a hose under the body of the mower and around the blades after you mow, and this should never be a problem.

Regular maintenance is also a good idea. The blades are spun by a system of belts and wheels, and having the belts checked and tightened once a year is wise. This way, you never have to worry about more serious damage that might be caused by a broken belt. Maintenance is inexpensive, and well worth it in the long run.

Finally, keep your blades in good condition. By having your blades sharpened regularly, or replaced if they are warped, you can save a lot of strain on your mower deck. Dull blades create more resistance, and this translates to more stress on your mower deck. By keeping your blades in good condition and well-oiled, you can greatly increase the life of your mower deck.
