Riding Mower Accessories

by Jared Vincenti

While buying a riding lawn mower is a big step toward making your lawn care worlds easier, there are a few accessories that can even improve that experience. Rider mowers are generally used on larger lawns, and have available features to aid in the mowing of larger spaces. Accordingly, mowing larger spaces usually means mowing for longer, and your comfort is important when taking on such a task.

Recommended Accessories

When considering the amount of noise produced by a lawn mower, it's a good idea to invest in a pair of earplugs if you'll be on your mower for a long time. The volume of the sound produced by a lawn mower is usually enough to start damaging your hearing with prolonged exposure. You can usually get earplugs or a sound-reducing headset at any hardware store.

Along with noise exposure is the danger of sun exposure. Grass grows fastest in sunny weather, so you'll have to be mowing more frequently when the sun is the hottest. Some lawn mower manufacturers have available canopies for their mowers. These canopies can be installed when you purchase your mower, and will protect you from sunburn and other harmful effects of sun exposure.

To help maximize the return on your investment in a lawn mower, you might also want to consider getting a mulching attachment. This is an additional extension of the mower deck with more blades that cut grass clippings even finer. This results in a faster-mulching compost, which is an excellent natural fertilizer. This way, you can save on fertilizing and have a healthier, greener lawn.
