NYC Wedding Photographers

by Tara Peris

These days, there is fierce competition among NYC wedding photographers, ensuring that you can find quality services at very reasonable prices if you're willing to take the time to look. The trick is to find a way to sift through the vast directory listing of potential photographers to find the one best suited to your needs. Freelancers come in all forms, so you've got to have a clear idea of what you're looking for at the outset.

Wedding photographers are a dime a dozen in New York. Some are freelancers who work from their homes, while others work out of well-appointed offices or portrait studios. Some plaster the ads in every local newspaper and magazine whereas others rely on word of mouth or a well-established reputation to help them bring in business. There's a great deal of variability out there and it's all too easy to lose your way.

Freelance Wedding Photographers

It would be great if you could judge a photographer based on office location or advertising approach. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. There are some top-notch freelancers who run very modest operations and they get overlooked easily when those kind of criteria are employed. It's a shame because these small guys are often able to provide high quality prints at the most competitive prices.

One of the best ways to find a good photographer in the city is to ask around among friends and colleagues. Their references can help you to whittle an impossibly long list of local photographers down to a select few to interview. Once you're there in person, you can view portfolios and get a sense of whether the candidate in question is the right one for you.
