CT Event PhotographersIn order to be successful, CT event photographers must be familiar with the rituals and customs of people from diverse backgrounds. Photographing events like weddings, bar mitzvahs, and quinceaneras requires not only technical skill, but cultural sensitivity as well. It's only when the traditions and practices of a different ethnic and religious groups are understood and appreciated fully that they can be captured in all their splendor. Although still a primarily Caucasian state, demographic trends suggest that the minority population in Connecticut continues to grow steadily. Particularly within the Latino community, the last decade has witnessed substantial growth. Neighborhoods across the state are increasingly diverse with regard to almost every major demographic characteristic, including race, religion, and living arrangements. Capturing Rituals and Customs on FilmThis growing diversity has changed the landscape of event photography considerably. No longer limited to traditional weddings, anniversaries, and debutante balls, freelance photographers are working at an impressive range of events. From the henna ceremonies customary in Hindu weddings to the Latino celebration of womanhood known as Quinceanera, photographers must be able to capture a range of ritual events. This requires a degree of education and cultural sensitivity that not all photographers possess. When interviewing potential candidates, ask about their experience handling events such as yours and look carefully at portfolio pictures from similar occasions. This screening should give you a sense of the skills they bring to a shoot. You can supplement as needed with education about your specific practices, but you want someone who will be sensitive and receptive to the information. ![]() Get all Photography articles via
