Employer Interview Questions

by Amy Hall

Employer interview questions can no doubt be daunting. Interviews can be nerve-wracking for both parties, which many candidates find surprising. The person interviewing for the job almost always feels like the only nervous person in the room, when in fact, the person conducting the interview may feel nervous as well.

Before a job interview, it is good to compile a list of questions to gauge an employee's interest in the company. They should know what it is you do, a bit about the company philosophy, and the recent performance indicators of the company as well. Candidates who do not know anything about these topics are likely looking for any job, not this particular job. Conversely, those applicants who took the time to research are likely to hold a genuine interest in the job and company, making them attractive candidates.

You will likely ask why people want the job at hand, and what their qualifications are that will help them perform that job well. Other possible questions might be why they want to work for that particular company, and how they will be able to contribute to that company. You can also ask about interests, responsibilities at your previous jobs, and the reasons for leaving a former employer. It is imperative that candidates do not bad-mouth their former employers, as they are likely to do the same to your company in the future.

Tough Employer Interview Questions

When asked about qualifications, candidates should not sound too boastful, as this is a turnoff to many employers. But they should certainly state their strong points, as you want to know you are hiring a skilled, confident person for the job. Look for clear, well-spoken answers, logical explanations to follow-up questions, and positive body language.
