Types Of InterviewsThere are various types of interviews that employers may use in order to determine if a candidate is right for the job. Some employers conduct phone interviews as a prelude to a face-to-face interview. This phone call can be used to determine job skills, educational background, and social skills of the job seeker before pursuing other interview options. Once a phone interview has been conducted, employers may wish to request a face-to-face interview. This is the typical interview where the job seeker comes to the office of the employer to sit down for a question and answer session. Although nerve-wracking for many people, the interview should be viewed as an opportunity to showcase one's credentials and people skills to prospective employer. Employers should attempt to make a candidate feel comfortable in order to get more candid and genuine responses. In some cases, if a candidate lives geographically far from the company, you may be able to take part in a web conference interview. A third party would set this up, usually an online recruiting service that found the qualified candidate. You would be able to see the potential employee from your computer screen, which means that the interview could take place from the comfort of your home or office. Understanding the Various Types of InterviewsAnother type of interview that many job candidates dread is the panel interview, which typically consists of two to six panel members. Each panel member will ask questions, letting more people get in on the decision making process. A round-table seating arrangement can often help both panelists and interviewees to feel more comfortable asking and answering questions. ![]() Get all Human Resources articles via
