Duty Gear

by Nicholas Kamuda

Duty gear, as used by police and other law enforcement officials, is a catchall phrase that includes supplies, tools, and weapons--basically anything that may be used in the field of duty. It is extremely important for professionals who may encounter combat situations to have the best in top-quality duty gear. Outdated or poorly manufactured equipment is potentially dangerous, and can put professionals at a disadvantage on the field.

The canon of duty gear that is used by police and other law enforcement agents grows as technology changes. Included in the list of gear are firearms and accessories, safety gear, and electronic gear such as surveillance equipment. Of course, professional apparel--boots, gloves, and vests--is also a necessity.

Duty Gear Outside the Field of Duty

Some items that are considered to be duty gear have civilian applications as well. Pepper spray, for example, is used by police but is also legal (in most places--be sure to check your state regulations) for civilians to carry. Many manufacturers produce small spray cans that are perfect for protecting yourself during an emergency.

Other objects perform so well in the field that they earn household brand names, as well. Mag-Lite brand flashlights are a prime example. They have been used professionally for over 25 years, and their reputation in the professional market has carried over and made Mag-Lites a huge success on the civilian market as well.
