Advanced Air TasersIn recent years, the technology behind the most advanced air tasers on the market has improved by leaps and bounds. These machines are now widely considered to be the most effective method of incapacitating a target within range. Advanced air tasers are also much less dangerous than other deterrents--they are non-lethal, affect only the target, and can be configured for either projectile mode or touch-stun mode, making them applicable for both contact situations and remote target incapacitation. Advantages of Using Advanced Air TasersOne of the strongest advantages to using an air taser is that a hit anywhere on the body will provide the same results: a daze, temporary immobility, and interrupted nervous functions. According to manufacturer's research, the low amperage of the tasers means that they do not permanently affect muscles or nervous functions. Many advanced air tasers use a T-Wave type of current that will not interrupt the heartbeat or pacemaker functions of the target. Moreover, the projectile probes that are fired do not need to contact or penetrate skin to be effective. Dart-like in shape, the provide current in such a way that the current can jump (up to a distance of two inches) to the body of the target. If the probes do penetrate the skin, only the needlepoint of the probe (on most models, less than a half of an inch long) will penetrate. Without a replacement cartridge, tasers may require a minute or so to reload. However, many current tasers also feature a touch-stun mode that turns the taser into a hand-held stun baton. Replacement cartridges allow users to quickly replace the probes and fire another shot, should the first shot miss the target. ![]() Get all Self Defense articles via
