Fibromyalgia Pain Relief

by Jared Vincenti

Fibromyalgia is a disease that is not recognized by many doctors, who instead choose to consider it a type of rheumatitis. Fibromyalgia is hard to characterize, with its main symptoms being a constant pain in muscles and ligaments accompanied by fatigue. It is often mistaken for chronic fatigue syndrome, but it instead its own disease.

The causes of fibromyalgia are not fully understood, but it occurs mostly in women. It appears to be related to sleep quality. Some suspect that fibromyalgia is caused by poor-quality sleep, often impaired by medication or anxiety. Others believe that calcium and phosphate levels in the body are somehow off, causing poor sleep and general fatigue and pain.

Living with Fibromyalgia

There is no cure for fibromyalgia, and doctors will recommend different courses of treatment. Oftentimes, the treatment will just be painkillers and antidepressants. These mask the pain and then lift the mood in order to minimize the associated fatigue.

Other doctors will recommend sleeping on a water bed and taking up a low-impact form of exercise such as swimming or aqua-jogging. Improving your quality of sleep and increasing your activity level may be an uphill battle, but they are the surest way to fight fibromyalgia. The health benefits of these activities will lessen the aches caused by the disease, and go a long way to fight the associated fatigue. Changing your overall lifestyle and and taking supplements to ensure proper nutrition can be the best way to go.
