Oracle Database AdministrationPerhaps the best known database administrator, and the one that has made the greatest leaps in popularity, is Oracle. Begun in 1997 by a man hoping to make more predictions from the information he had in his business, the market expanded and leaped forward because of some of his ideas. Now, entire books are devoted to Oracle as a programming language alone, and it's user-friendly system has had several new incantations in the technology. The Advantages of OracleThe most obvious feature that is making Oracle so popular as a database administrator is its widespread usage. Many people in businesses are familiar with the language involved, and once this has happened in such a complex field, it can be easy to cage the market. Oracle did for database administration what Microsoft Windows did for home computer users--it gave everyone a standard system of set-up, guidelines, and features that allow everyone to be able to read and be trained in the same language. Although Oracle has less freedom than other programs such as SQL that are based in programming language, it still has a multitude of benefits. Unlike SQL, Oracle works within its own programming language for application and development, but otherwise, many of the features are similar. Oracle allows for design, implementation, and security for all database information. Furthermore, it also contains features that create relational networks amongst data, interlocking people and information in a direction not seen before the last several years. Whatever the reason for looking into Oracle, it is a good choice for a person in the IT field to know about. Whether it is the best fit for your business depends on what you are doing, as with anything else. Knowledge, however, can best be equated to power in regards to such programs. ![]() Get all Database articles via
