Any business or organization that provides consumer related services can benefit greatly from maintaining records on their customers and then analyzing this information to develop statistical trends. The collection and subsequent analysis of this type of data is commonly referred to as identifying client demographics and is usually used to pinpoint the prevailing characteristics of the industry's patrons. Many organizations have found that retaining and managing this magnitude of data is most efficiently done with software products. In the rehabilitation industry, information on the patient or client's healthcare plan, enrollment and discharge dates, treatment schedules, employment status and recovery progress is often stored in what is called case management software.

The final step in developing client demographics involves presenting the data collected in a quantifiable format. This can be done by generating reports, graphs and spreadsheets. Now the information can easily be analyzed to develop statistical trends for an individual or a group of consumers.
