Web Site Marketing
Web Site MarketingAnyone who owns and runs a website knows how hard it can be to get people to click on your site. You might be selling a cure for cancer, but if no one knows about your site, you won't sell a single thing. On the flip side, you could be selling something that no one needs, but if you have hundreds of people a day visiting your page, you could be the world's next millionaire. What do some people know that others don't? What's the big secret to getting your page or product out there? It's all about marketing. You have to be clever and strategic. There isn't just one way to skin a cat, as they say, but you certainly have to skin it. If you simply set up your site, sit back and grab a drink, don't be surprised when nothing happens. In fact, about 85 percent of all websites rarely or never see any action because they are designed by artists instead of people who know marketing. Of course, there is always the regular kind of marketing. These are things like putting ads in newspapers, magazines, using billboards, handing out flyers or mailing brochures. However, you want to make sure that you get to the people on the Internet because that's where your business is. Marketing Your BusinessYour business might not run off the Internet. If you offer services like photography or massage, you obviously can't mail out a backrub via UPS. However, you can make your business more widely known by creating a website. You can talk about the approaches you take, the particular services you offer, how much you charge and how people can reach you. If you like, you can include testimonials. Having a website for your business potentially reaches more people than ever before. You have access to the entire world. You might be thinking that you don't need that kind of access if you're offering local massage. However, if someone from another state or country is doing some traveling and looking for a good massage during that time, he or she might use the services of the Internet to find a place. If your business isn't online, you miss out. However, if your business is online, but isn't advertised, you miss out as well. Internet marketing is slightly different than regular marketing. You first have to do what's called search engine optimization. Your ultimate goal is to make it so that your site achieves a high ranking when someone does a search. Creating KeywordsYou'll start the process of search engine optimization by creating keywords that go along with your site. If you are selling gardening tools, for instance, you would want words like "gardening tools," "gardening gloves," "watering cans," and so forth. Once you have these, you will likely want to find an online service that specializes in getting your site listed with search engines. There are plenty of companies that do this. First, take your time to check out a few of them. You will want to know that you are getting the best deal. You want to find a company that guarantees to up your site's visibility in a short amount of time. I suggest finding a place with a flat monthly rate. ![]() Get all Web Marketing articles via
