Westlake Village's History

Westlake Village began as a planned bedroom community. In 1966, construction on Westlake Village began around a manmade lake that straddles the county line between Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. In 1981, the city was incorporated. Part of the original planned community lies in Ventura County in the City of Thousand Oaks, but the entire Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area is often treated like one big community.
