Expunge California Criminal Records

by Patricia Skinner

Most people do things in their youth that they later regret and wish they could wipe from the story of their lives. Many of us, at some time in our lives, get involved in something that gets out of hand. Maybe we'll even wind up being prosecuted, and in a worst case scenario, we may end up with a criminal record that will darken our horizon for the rest of our lives.

New Hiring Practices

Indiscretions committed while we're young can come back to haunt us. This applies doubly now that we have electronic records that can be accessed from all over the country. To make things worse, many companies and organizations now make it standard practice to check out anyone who works for them, and even some volunteers must be checked out.

This practice is called "due diligence." Businesses can and are sued in courts of law for the results of not taking proper precautions when they hire new people. Because of the disastrous nature of these lawsuits, you can't blame a company for running a thorough check on any new applicants. We all need to protect ourselves wherever and however we can.

Where does that leave the average person who is trying to be a good citizen but ends up with a past that keeps dogging him? Fortunately there are things you can do. Now, you can apply to the courts to have criminal records expunged in some cases. You can even apply for a certificate of rehabilitation and pardon. This applies to most misdemeanors and some felonies. To find out more, you need to talk to a good criminal defense lawyer.
