HTML EmailTechnically speaking, HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. HTML is, as of this writing, the standard markup language used in web page creation. It is not a programming language, but rather, a "presentation" language. HTML contains four kinds of codes, which are buried in the text. These codes can affect the structure of text (whether or not a phrase is meant to be a subject heading, or a footnote); the appearance of text(whether or not a word is italicized, or hot pink, or a wacky font, for instance); hypertext codes, which provide links to other web pages; and finally, "widget" codes, which produce images, like buttons, or bullet-points, for lists within text. HTML is much more interesting and appealing to the eye than "basic text," which, generally, looks like an old fashioned typewriter. HTML, however, is K-heavier than basic text, and so, until recently, was not practical as an e-mail medium. Happily, most email mailboxes are now fully capable of handling the larger load. As a result, e-businesses are wise to take advantage of email marketing plans utilizing HTML text. Transforming "Interested Consumer" into "Purchasing Customer"HTML email makes it easy to capture the attention of consumers. Colorful, engagingly written text can pique consumer interest. Further, HTML email, versus basic text, can provide links to other websites--namely yours. HTML email provides the means to transform that "interested consumer" into a "purchasing customer" in a single click. More advanced elements of HTML email can include "forward to a friend" technology, which helps to spread word of mouth, and can ultimately lead to even greater return on one's investment. "Investment" because of course, HTML email capabilities are not standard in most prepackaged e-business solutions. However, they are considered more than worth their cost in earnings potential for both new, and returning, customers. ![]() Get all Web Development articles via
