Motor Home RentalsPeople considering purchasing a motor home are wisely encouraged to rent a variety of makes and models prior to making a firm decision. Just as one test-drives multiple cars before making a purchase, so too should those in the market for their own motor home check out a variety of options before making a commitment of many thousands of dollars. Not all motor homes are created equal, and actual experience on the road is the only way to make a truly informed decision. And would-be buyers, if they rent from top-shelf RV rental and sales companies, will often find up to one week of rental charges can be applied to a purchase, once you find the motor home of your dreams. Try Before You BuyIf you're considering a motorized motor home (as opposed to a trailer), then obviously the drivability is important, as well as the "feel" one gets behind the wheel. Equally important is the unit's power and related fuel efficiency. But a motor home is more than just an oversized car, and a quick drive around the block. Even a drive down the highway won't tell the whole story. Renting prior to purchase also allows future buyers to sample first-hand the ease of operating the awnings, slideouts, and levels. Additionally, renting a unit is the only way to determine whether or not the multiple water tanks provide adequate supply, if the air conditioning system operates quietly and efficiently, and whether the storage space is acceptable. Only after a day or two in the unit can buyers be certain that the interior is spacious enough to prevent feeling claustrophobic over long periods of time. The comfort of the vehicle's appointments is another feature that must be experienced. For instance, many motor homes have different bathroom dimensions. Folks may figure they can live with a smallish bathroom--until they realize someone over 6 feet tall can't actually close the bathroom door when sitting on the toilet. An experiment like this could feel awkward in front of a sales associate. Renting motor homes prior to purchase allows would-be-owners to know if the beds are comfy, the showers and water pressure are functional, the chairs are adequate, the kitchen is big enough, etcetera. Renting even just one to determine not only its form, but it's function too, can result in a joyous marriage between a motor home and her happy travelers. ![]() Get all RV articles via
