Florida Outdoors

by Blaire Chandler-Wilcox

It's no wonder Ponce de Leon was convinced that Florida was the home of the Fountain of Youth. Intoxicating natural beauty is everywhere one looks. The emerald green waters, the white sand beaches, the fringe of palm trees, and the lush tropical environment appears to be right out of Eden. It's a knock-your-eyes-out environment.

Yes, millions upon millions flock annually to the man-made theme parks that have made portions of this state so very famous. Amusement and theme parks are fun, and boisterous, and full of possibilities for laughter. But there's another side to Florida, that though quieter, is much more intriguing, mysterious, and ultimately satisfying.

Beaches and Forests and Gators, Oh My!

The coast line offers riches beyond belief. Florida's beaches are among the most beautiful in the world. Walking white alabaster sands, camping under palm trees, digging for clams are but a few pleasant ways to pass the time. Underwater mysteries are there for the discovering, as well. Scuba and snorkeling are particularly exciting, especially in the State Parks that have coral reef explorations.

More inland, there are wildlife viewing possibilities that beat the pants off an animatronic theme ride. Waterfalls pulsate. Campfires glow. Hiking, biking, camping, swimming, fishing--Florida's outdoors is said to tantalize even the most devoted armchair tourist. Florida's outdoors making even the most luxe interior look drab. There is, after all, a reason why they call it the Sunshine state.
