LCD Projection TV

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is one of the four formats available for projection televisions. The other formats are cathode ray tube (CRT), which is the original television standard, as well as digital light processing display, and liquid crystal on silicon display. Of these formats, LCD TVs are best equipped to provide the highest quality picture. In addition, LCD TVs are the only type of projection sets available as flat panels.

Their thin build also makes them perfect for installation in narrow areas that might be inaccessible to bulkier models. The average thickness of a large LCD projection TV is less than 12'', allowing it to be easily positioned on a bookcase, countertop, shelf, or mounted against a wall. LCD technology is also found in portable video devices, such as handheld DVD players and video games.

For years, analog televisions have featured a curved glass screen. A drawback of this design, no matter how high quality of a model, was that the screen could be easily obscured by outside sources. For example, a large screen, high quality analog television's picture could still be washed out and hidden under the glare of sunlight coming through a window. The same holds true for other interior light sources. This is because of the way light would be reflected off of curved glass. However, the flat panel monitor design of LCD projection TVs helps keep any external light sources from influencing the picture. In addition, rear-projection helps keep the image quality high and the picture sharp, regardless of the environment.
