Panasonic Viera LCD TV

by Kevin Tavolaro

The Panasonic Viera is among an increasing number of televisions created with equal attention to both picture quality, and the aesthetic appeal of the unit itself. The Viera has a thin, lightweight construction that curves around its 32-inch widescreen display. It rests above an adjustable metallic base, and features a silver/pearl finish, making it an attractive addition to any room. However, the overall appearance of a television is of little value if the unit can't deliver equally high quality picture and sound. Fortunately, the Viera's LCD screen is up to the challenge.

The Viera LCD TV provides an exceedingly high standard of image quality and detail. It offers a 983,000-pixel display, making it capable of rendering numerous details with exceptional clarity and composition. In fact, Panasonic's Viera is equipped to process what is currently the highest quality digital standard. The model also features a crystal-black panel mask, which serves to further boost the image quality in terms of contrast and color.

Panasonic Viera LCD TV Features

The Panasonic Viera LCD TV is capable of providing a great cinematic experience for your home theater entertainment system. Its 32-inch screen has an aspect ratio (display in terms of width by height) of 16:9, allowing it correctly display video in the widescreen format used by movie theaters. This aspect ratio is the standard for most DVDs, and is favored by new high definition broadcasting. However, the Viera is still capable of displaying traditional video images in a number of ways. If you're viewing non-widescreen images on the Viera, you can choose to have the TV automatically resize the picture to fit the screen (which can lead to a somewhat stretched image), or you can crop the image in the center of the screen.

Panasonic includes many additional home theater friendly features in the Viera, including stereo surround sound, as well numerous audio/video input and output jacks to accommodate game consoles, speaker systems, cable, satellite connections, DVD players, VCRs, and more. The surprisingly lightweight (60 lbs) can be attached to a swiveling base, or mounted to a wall. It also includes a digital media slot, which allows you to display images from digital cameras, camcorders, and computers directly on the TV.
