Anti-slip Floor Coatings
Ceramic CoatingsCeramic tile flooring is highly desirable in many settings, indoors or outdoors, home or professional. Restrooms, shower areas, swimming pool decks, foyers and kitchens are but a few of the locations where ceramics can be both a beautiful as well a practical choice. Unfortunately, many ceramic tile floors, when worn or wet, can be a significant hazard for slips and falls. Fortunately, many solutions exist for reducing the incidence of slips and falls associated with ceramic tile flooring. Keeping ceramic tiles clean and properly maintained is the first step. Electrolytic cleaners will actually work to detach soil particles from the flooring, and continue to repel particles. Some cleaners actually include slip-reducing agents that will increase the coefficient of friction of your flooring. For avoiding the slipperiness associated with old, worn finishes, choose a stripper that effectively emulsifies the old finish. Increasing Flooring Traction with Ceramic CoatingsFor ceramic flooring, opaque or colored anti-slip coatings are obviously not desirable, so your coatings should be invisible. There are treatments that will seal your ceramic tiles and simultaneously increase their traction. These treatments should be durable and should, except for the highest traffic areas, last for many years without re-application. With these treatments, a wet floor even increases the slip resistance. For high-traffic and industrial areas, you will want a coating that is resistant to chemical and mechanical impacts. Whether your ceramic floor is in a hospital, garage, health club, home, or pool deck, you will want to make sure that you use cleaning products, coatings, and sealers that increase friction and reduce slipping. Slips and falls account for a high proportion of annual injuries and accidental deaths in the United States, so don't take any chances. ![]() Get all Industrial Supplies articles via
