Anti-slip Floor Coatings
Garage Floor Epoxy CoatingsCare of garage floors is a pertinent issue, both for homeowners and for businesses. Proper maintenance of a garage floor is important in preserving the value of a home, and requisite for businesses where prevention of slips and falls is required. In many garages, many chemicals such as oil and solvents can not only create slip hazards, but can damage the flooring. Many of these issues can be addressed by a proper garage floor coating. Epoxy coatings for garage floors can be an economical and long-lasting solution to garage floor care. Epoxies are often used on garage floors because they do a good job of protecting against chemicals and mechanical impacts. They can also prevent natural deterioration from wear in places where traffic is high, such as an auto repair shop. Preparation for Applying Garage Floor Epoxy CoatingsBecause concrete is a porous material, applying or installing a garage floor epoxy coating is not as simple as just rolling or spraying it on. Since moisture can penetrate concrete, many floors will previously have been treated with some sort of sealer. This may make application of epoxy coatings problematic. Grease or oil stains can also prevent proper application of epoxy. Owners should do their best to understand the history of the flooring before making an investment in epoxy coatings. One solution to removing previous coatings is to chemically etch the floor beforehand. This removes a thin layer of material and opens the pores of the concrete. Garage floor epoxy coatings can vary in thickness, and can be single or double layers. For added traction, abrasive materials such as sand or synthetic substitutes can be added to the epoxy mixture, or sprinkled on afterward depending on the method of application. This is a good solution to preventing slips and falls in locations where oil, grease, or other water is often present. Whatever you choose, an epoxy coating for your garage floor can extend its life and prevent accidents. ![]() Get all Industrial Supplies articles via
