Anti-slip Floor Coatings
Industrial Anti Slip FloorsIn many industrial settings such as warehouses, factories, and machine shops, care and maintenance of floors and walkways is an integral part of workplace safety. Slips, trips, and falls in the workplace account for over $200 million in worker compensation payouts every year, and are among the top causes of industrial accidents. Prevention of slips and falls requires close attention to flooring by facility managers. Industrial Anti-slip Floors: Integral to Occupational Safety and HealthA comprehensive industrial program designed to prevent slips and falls should first and foremost include proper training and awareness of employees. Equally important, however, is proper care and maintenance of flooring and walkways. Managers should not only create a program that includes good housekeeping practices, but also should adequately design or modify flooring to meet standards of occupational health and safety organizations and agencies. Creating an anti-slip floor in an industrial setting will largely depend on the type of flooring you have or plan to have. In large warehouses, for example, concrete flooring is often used. Concrete is very durable, but can become very slippery over time from wear, water, or chemicals. Many manufacturers offer complete lines of products to properly treat concrete in ways that will enhance both the traction and the life of the flooring. Vinyl floors are another common flooring type in industrial environments. With vinyl, it is critically important to maintain the floors regularly, as buildup of soils can create slippery conditions. Frequent stripping and sealing will go a long way to preventing accidents. Applying a non-slip coating to vinyl floors is an economical option for reducing the slipperiness of these types of walkways. ![]() Get all Industrial Supplies articles via
