Osteoporosis Medication

by Courtney Salinas

Osteoporosis is a bone disease that affects mainly postmenopausal women but can affect men as well. There are several factors that can cause the onset of osteoporosis, including lack of physical activity (and to a lesser degree, excessive physical activity), low calcium intake, excessive consumption of soft drinks, estrogen deficiency and early menopause. Osteoporosis can be prevented and new, more effective treatments are becoming more widely available every day.

Osteoporosis causes bones to become brittle, which causes them to fracture and break easily. The areas of highest concern are the hips, wrists, ankles and other joints. These areas with moving parts are the most vulnerable and if they're fractured or broken, can be the most painful and difficult to recover from.

Osteoporosis Treatment and Prevention

To date, prevention is the best method of dealing with osteoporosis. Family history is a good way to determine whether you might have problems with osteoporosis. If you have a history of osteoporosis in your family, you might want to consider calcium and vitamin D supplements to help prevent osteoporosis. Since osteoporosis awareness has just recently come into the public consciousness, a lot of people might not know if there's osteoporosis in their family history.

A bone and joint nutritional supplement can be an easy way to include all the nutrients you'll need for good bone health. By taking one of these, all the work and cost of finding different supplements is reduced. You'll have just one kind of pill a day to remember to take instead of three or four.
