Arthritis Relief

by Courtney Salinas

Arthritic joints can make life very difficult for once-active people. According to the Arthritis Foundation, half of Americans with arthritis think there's nothing they can do about it. There are a great many things that can be done to help relieve the pain and difficulties associated with having arthritis.

There are several prescription drugs available to arthritis sufferers to help with pain and inflammation. Drugs like Celebrex are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs), and have helped millions with arthritis pain. One NSAID called Vioxx was recently recalled by the manufacturer because studies showed that it increased the chances of stroke and heart attack. This has caused some concerned among arthritis sufferers who wonder how safe other NSAIDs are in comparison to Vioxx.

Simple Arthritis Relief

There are simple ways to relieve arthritis pain. Diet changes can have very positive effects on arthritis pain and inflammation. Foods with omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon, or vitamin C and antioxidants, like oranges, can help reduce the effects of arthritis. A significant diet change to increase vitamins and minerals and decrease salt, sugar and saturated fats can make a great difference in arthritis pain.

Starting a garden can be an effective way to fight arthritis, as well. Being active outdoors can have very positive effects on your aching joints. Digging in the dirt with your hands can also provide comfort for aching fingers. In the meantime you'll be growing nutritious fruits and vegetables or fragrant and beautiful flowers for you and your family to enjoy.
