Premenstrual SyndromeMost women have physical, emotional and behavioral symptoms prior to menstruation. These symptoms are referred to as premenstrual syndrome, more commonly known as PMS. Premenstrual syndrome can not only be painful for the woman in question, but can also cause her extreme emotional distress as well as emotional distress in those close to her. While premenstrual syndrome is common for most women, some women experience stronger symptoms than others. There are a large variety of causes for these cases, ranging from external physical and emotional factors, to internal factors. Stress can contribute heavily to the intensity of premenstrual syndrome symptoms. High alcohol or caffeine intake can also increase symptoms. Women can suffer the effects of both premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea and often are looking for relief from both.
