Nursing Continuing EducationNursing continuing education is a broad field, encompassing course work for nursing students, as well as practicing nurses who want to brush up on their knowledge. Nursing continuing education is offered through a variety of channels, among them public schools and universities, community colleges, and private institutions. In addition, hundreds of continuing education courses are being offered online as well. Nursing continuing education classes exist for almost every imaginable medical field or topic. These include areas from HIV/AIDs care to general administration, legal issues to wound care. Many classes have sprung up around modern-day issues that have a psychological or social bent. Among these are physical and emotional abuse-oriented fields such as domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse. Nursing Continuing Education in Today's WorldNursing continuing education continues to grow and change to reflect the society in which it is based. An obvious example of this is the number of courses in multicultural issues as they relate to nursing and medicine. This has come about as a necessary response to the continuing influx of immigrants from all parts of the world. Different cultures can always clash, but in the world of medicine, these clashes can be traumatic. Continuing multicultural nursing education works to avoid these clashes, in part by educating the nurses serving these communities specifically about these issues. By learning about the worlds in which their patients live, nurses can have a better idea of what to expect, as well as how to relate to these populations. This enables nurses to work with their patients, rather than against them, in order to realize their ultimate goal of delivering the best care possible. ![]() Get all Medical Education articles via
